Welcome

Calgary Catholic Support Staff Association

The association was formed in 1990 which was originally called CCBESSA. We are now known as CEP Local 1990 (Communications Energy Paperworkers Union of Canada). We have approximately 1200 members and two composite locals, The Francophone Public School Region No. 4 and The Francophone Public School Region No. 4; Catholic Francophone.

The Executive meets every 3rd Tuesday of the month at the Union office. As per our bylaws we have one Site Rep meeting and three General and one Annual Meeting. The dates and locations of these meetings are always determined on school availability.

Did you know that if you reach the age of 55 and have worked for the District for more that 10 years and are planning to retire you may be entitled to $25 a year from the local. Call someone on the Executive for further information.

Funding

The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union locals in the Education sector have produced and printed a brochure which we are circulating to all our members who work for school boards in the Province. Our purpose is to educate and motivate our members to put public pressure on the current provincial government to fund the short fall in the provincial education budget of 110 million. We have received the blessing and support from Dr. Lucy Miller to circulate this brochure in the schools.

Our focus is to put pressure on the government to fund education and to provide the school curriculum, programs and infrastructure that is badly needed in this Province. It is very sad that the richest Province cannot invest in our children’s, grandchildren, etc. future.

We ask you to read the material and talk to your friends, relatives, community groups and anybody else you can to gain support for campaign. We are working with the ATA, CUPE, Alberta Federation of Labour, and Public Interest Alberta as a coalition in order to get our message out.

If you require any more information please let us know and we will be happy to answer your questions.

What’s Happening

It’s finally here! At the last General Meeting your Executive brought forward to the membership the idea of an Educational Bursary.

If you have been working with the District for a year or more and are interested in taking a course that is job related you may be eligible for a Educational Bursary.
